One of my favorite home videos is of me mimicking applying makeup with my moms brushes when I was two on her vanity. I’ve always admired how beautiful my mother is inside and out–she has been a great beauty influence for decades.
I love the time we share when she’s in my chair while I do her makeup for one of the parties/fundraisers/galas (my mom is way cooler than me) because we get to catch up and laugh; and after everything she has done for me, I like that I get to give something back to her even if it is something as small as some false lashes or a killer smokey eye. I just want to make her smile!
We still swap products and share tips while getting ready. She’s not shy to use color or attempt a cat eye. Of course like any daughter, I think my mother is the most beautiful woman on earth because she means the world to me and my family. I have been blessed to have her set an amazing example on the kind of woman I should be in every aspect of life.
It’s amazing how moms can juggle a million tasks at once and still look great doing it. My mom’s beauty expertise has been such a large influence on my life and I thank her for it. I had no clue what concealer was, and didn’t know the wonders of mascara until my mom showed me. I love that home video because it’s actual proof of how I used to sit and study makeup. It was so intriguing watching how she used a different brush for each product, which I picked up and fiddled with after wondering what was in it. I’ve never lost that curiosity, and I’m happy that those memories of my mom and her makeup has fueled the fire to get me where I am today and my future plans.
I’ve learned so much from my mom. She has great advice on so many topics but my favorite beauty advice has been the following:
Always smile! You never know how your smile may effect someone.
Let your inner beauty shine bright.
She likes to line her water rim with black to define the shape of her eyes.
Don’t be afraid to try new things! She loves bright colors and new styles.
Never under estimate a highlighted brow bone. She rocks a shimmery brow bone like no other.
Any shimmery shadow for that fact-all over and especially in the inner corners to brighten your eyes.
“Tan fat is better than pale fat.” Haha, sad but true, everyone looks better with a little color!
Always keep some products in your car. I know she keeps lip gloss and a few different lipsticks in her console at all times.
Confidence is key to looking your best.
And “Never leave the house without lipstick!” has been burned in my brain forever.
I want to know, what’s the beauty advice your mother has shared with you??
I just want to say a quick thank you Mom for giving me the strength, courage and support to chase my dreams and make them a reality. Your unconditional love is truly treasured.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the beautiful mamas out there!
